Matrigel® Matrix, ECMs and Scaffolds
Corning® Matrigel® Matrix— making 3D Cell Culture easier than ever. Corning Ultra-Low Attachment surface, a unique hydrogel surface designed to prevent cell attachment, inhibits specific and nonspecific immobilization, which forces cells into a suspended state, enabling 3D spheroid formation Corning® Matrigel matrix is an ECM-based hydrogel – proven and trusted since 1985 – that is suitable for a variety of cell types and functions. Matrigel matrix is a reconstituted basement membrane extract from Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) mouse tumors and contains the prominent ECM molecules found in basement membrane. These components promote cellular functions that can support viability, proliferation, function, and development of many cell types, as well as subsequent cellular responses that are more physiologically relevant compared to cells grown in a 2D environment.
Corning also offers other natural ECMs including collagen, laminin, and fibronectin. For studies of human cells that require xeno-free culture conditions, Corning offers human collagens, fibronectin, osteopontin, and vitronectin. For researchers who need animal-free culture systems, we offer two synthetic products Poly-D-Lysine for 2D cell culture and Corning PuraMatrix peptide hydrogel for 3D cell culture. Poly-D-Lysine promotes cell attachment and/or differentiation for a variety of cell types including transfected cell lines, neuronal cell lines, glial cells, and primary neurons.
Corning ECMs are used for a range applications and cell types including in vitro and in vivo angiogenesis, cell migration and invasion, three-dimensional cell culture, neuronal cell culture, primary hepatocyte culture, culturing human embryonic stem (hES), and induced pluripotent stem (iPS) cells
